From Uncertainty to Opportunity - Evander Ghee

2 min read

An inspiring success story is emerging from the partnership between Brian Kerle Basketball and Community Sports Mentoring and Coaching (CSMC), as an 18 year old Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athlete Evander Ghee continues to make his mark both on and off the court.

Born in Gladstone, Evander’s journey hasn’t always been clear cut. During his time at St Brendan’s College, he found himself uncertain about what the future held. Like many young people, he faced the challenge of navigating life after school without a defined career pathway.

That all began to change when he discovered basketball. Through the support of CSMC, Evander connected with Brian Kerle Basketball, a program known not only for developing talent but for shaping young people into confident, driven individuals. What started as a passion quickly evolved into purpose.

Now, Evander has just finished playing with the QSL1 and QSLYL1 team in the recent QSL seasons with with the Southern District Spartans, showcasing his talent at a high level and establishing himself as a promising Torres Strait Islander prospect. This was shown specifically with him winning MVP for the QSLYL1 team.

A key part of that journey is his involvement in the Brian Kerle Basketball Academy. At the Brian Kerle Basketball Academy, Evander is gaining more than just basketball skills. The academy is helping him build confidence, discipline, and, most importantly, a clear pathway for life beyond sport.

Evander’s story highlights the power of mentorship, community, and opportunity. With the guidance of CSMC and Brian Kerle Basketball, he has transformed uncertainty into direction and potential into progress.

As he continues to develop, Evander Ghee stands as a role model for other young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes, proving that with the right support, belief, and work ethic, the future is full of possibility.
